After the blessing of life itself and the breath/soul entering the body, birth is a fact and on the wheel we have entered the east. East is the place of spring, birth and beginnings. Here you hear one of my own melodies which sounds like a lullaby: soothing, comforting and protective. Since birth can only happen to us humans after the masculine and feminine principles have come together to create new life, I wanted to include a feminine and masculine voice in this track.
Galitta Tassa is a singer with an Israeli-Yemenite background, living in Amsterdam. We have know each other for many years (we met each other through our mutual friend Jennifer Hinton) and for a long time I had the wish to one day make a recording together with Galitta. This seemed to be the perfect opportunity, and I invited her to come to the studio. We recorded a few tracks with her, of which we used two: this one and track 5 (‘Blessed words’). On this track, Galitta sings in the way she sings her children to sleep sometimes: vowels that sound like words, but which have no meaning. You can visit Galitta by going to www.galitta.com.
For the masculine voice I contacted my friend Aron Saltiel, a singer/therapist with a Jewish-Turkish background living in Austria. We sent Aron a recording of the basic melody line and the drum, and in Austria he added his voice to it. Ramon and I chose a few fragments of his contribution and wove them through the melody. You can learn more about Aron by visiting him at his web-site: www.saltiel.at.
The added sounds are a rhythmic pattern of waves of the sea: the salt water in which life began. Hands are clapping a heart beat and voices are humming in the background.
